ANCIENT GREECE

The ancient Greece civilization was born on a small and rocky peninsula in southern Europe. The ancient Greeks introduced many new ideas, the most Important of which was that a democratic state. Greece consist of numerous peninsulas and islands, the sea played a very important role in the lives of the ancient Greece. Greek civilization reached a peak between 500 and 336 BC and
this period was called the "classical age".Classical Greek culture was so highly advanced the cultures of ancient Rome and still has an enduring effect on European civilization.

         The history of Ancient Greece is usually divided in to different stages, first one Bronze age, which was the period between 2900 BC and 1200 BC. The period from 800 to 500 BC is called the Archaic Age. Classical age was between the period 500 and 300 BC. Art and architecture reached their peak during the Classical Age. During the Hellenistic age from 336 BC to 156 BC. The Greek states were united by Alexander the great (356-323 BC). He conquered the Persian Empire and spread the Greek culture from Egypt to Afghanistan.

          The island of Crete is located in the centre of the Eastern Mediterranean at the crossroads of Africa,Asia and Europe. It was the home of the earliest of Eastern Mediterranean Civilization-Minoan Civilization (2000-1500 BC). The Civilization gets its name from the legendary King Minos of Crete. Bull leaping was complex and dangerous spot that was popular with the Minoans. Knossos is the most famous place of the Minoan Civilization. The place was constructed in a labyrinth like pattern and it provides housing about 100,000 people. 

          The Mycenaean Civilization forms an important part of ancient Greek history. The Mycenaean came to power on the Greek mainland during the Bronze age.
