KALPANA CLAWLA WAS AN ASTRONAUT AND SPACE SHUTTLE MISSION SPECIALIST OF STS-107 COLUMBIA WHO WAS KILLED WHEN THE CRAFT DISINTEGRATED AFTER REENTRY TO THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE. SHE WAS BORN IN HARYANA, INDIA. SHE STUDIED HER AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING AT THE PUNJAB ENGINEERING COLLEGE IN 1982 WERE SHE OBTAINED HER BACHELOR OF
SCIENCE DEGREE AND AFTER SHE MOVED TO THE UNITED STATES TO EARN MASTER DEGREE.

She obtained master of science degree in aerospace engineering from university of taxas 1984 and she earned her doctorate from university of Colorado in 1988. Same year she began working in NASA. Kalpana chawla was the first Indian born women in space. She was the second person from India to fliy in to space. On her first mission she traveled about over 6.5 million miles in space.
